Welcome to BeTeC
Health care workers suffer between 600,000 and one million accidental needlestick injuries from conventional syringes annually in the USA alone. Many result in death. In some countries, syringes and needles are reused, up to 200 times, resulting in cross infection. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), claim 62 to 88 percent of sharp injuries can be prevented by the use of safer medical devices. Every year about 12 billion injections are given globally, a significant proportion of which are believed to be unsafe for the patient, the provider or the community. Contaminated needles and syringes, accidentally or intentionally, are potentially causing many millions of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections and many thousands of immunodefiency virus (HIV) infections each year, particularly in developing countries. The cost to society of the treatment of the disease caused by an unsafe injection is thought to be equivalent to about 22 cents US per injection - considerably more that the cost of preventing disease caused this way. (source: WHO) Safety syringes are not yet fully integrated in medical circles because:
With the current crisis in mind, BeTeC has developed a range of Retractable Safety Syringes, ADS Syringes and is in the process of developing other safety products. Our retractable syringe conforms to all new W.H.O. and N.I.O.S.H. standards and we are continually looking for cheaper and better ways to manufacture syringes offering maximum protection to the HCW's. BeTeC Medical Science has been launched with a clear mission:
